Vision therapy

Our optometrists have gained specialized expertise in vision therapy (VT). Programs aim to help  children, teens and adults who have learning difficulties, or who have problems with strabismus, amblyopia, spatial orientation, and judging distances that affects their balance and daily activities. These programs can also help improve sports performance.

Vision therapy is an option for people of almost any age, starting from the time a child can understand and follow simple instructions, usually around the age of 4. For younger children, exercises of a passive nature can be done, such as wearing an eye patch or binasal occlusion, which involves partially blocking vision on both sides of the nose. There is no upper age limit, although certain problems have a much better success rate when treated at an early age.

THERAPY CAN PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY CORRECT A WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS

The success of the treatment varies according to:

  • The condition
  • The age of the patient
  • The patient’s compliance with treatment

Below is a partial list of conditions that can benefit from a vision therapy program:

  • Strabismus and ocular alignment problems
  • Amblyopia
  • Phoria (problems with convergence or divergence)
  • Accommodation problems (focusing)
  • Learning difficulties related to visual problems
  • Problems judging distances and spatial orientation
  • Improvement of sports performance
